Wiissa are the photographic duo and couple Vanessa Hollander and Wilson Philippe who have been shooting together since they were 14 and 15 years respectively. Their work, shot exclusively on film, is nostalgic for a time that the photographers never knew; an idealised view of late 70s Americana, nestled somewhere between Dazed and Confused and Scarface if they were shot on a Super 8.
As a European who's always been gazing towards America, this false nostalgia represents the other American dream; a place where it's always sunny, people have pools and you have infinite leisure time to lounge around looking cool with cool people. In Wiissa's photos, everything that Nickelodeon taught you about America is true.
Wiissa, now represented by the creative agencyNouvelle Vague, have worked with a range of people including Oyster, Urban Outfitters and Nylon and were among the finalists of the Flickr 20 under 20 exhibition at Milk studios last month. You're gonna be seeing a lot more of these two in the future, but for now gaze at a selection of their shots below and check out the rest of their work here.
