Selfies are a fairly debated thing. From tumblrs claiming that they are a legitimate art form, to Leica creating a book of Leica captured selfies, all the way to the statement from Stephen Marche that 'The selfie is the masturbation of self-image.'
DIS Magazine's #ArtSelfie isn't claiming selfies as an art form, but that the taking of a selfie reflected in art kinda is. Their website asks 'is art a reflection of life? Do people respond to an artwork when they see something of themselves in it?' and it strives to get answers via the sending in of shots. The site was originally intended to only gather reflection art selfies, but now its evolved into people taking photos of themselves in front of paintings (herald in by Eminem, obviously) or any art that they can get at.
'Go see art. See yourself in art. Let us see you see you.'
Regardless of their individual artistic merit, art selfies prove you're cultured enough to go to a gallery, so why not add it to your insta' repertoire? We all know you're gonna be taking photos of yourself anyway. Get inspired here.
